The next door neighbors moved in yesterday,
Their tans were perfect though it's early May.
I waved and said hello,
They smiled with a sunny glow,
And then I noticed their license plate—
Straight from the Golden State.
(You know the California sun
Doesn't shine in Oregon.)
Do we need another Californian
Moving north to take over Portland?
Our northwest way of living
Is usually so forgiving,
But still I feel a little cold
To those who voted for Arnold.
[Californinterlude]
Now two years later there's a new family to meet,
They just moved in to the house across the street.
The next door neighbors stop by,
Still perfectly tanned, they ask, "Why—
Why do we need another one
From the land of endless sun?"
(You know the California sun
Doesn't shine in Oregon.)
